Be prepared for the winter months – your gas fire should be serviced by a Corgi-registered gas fitter on an annual basis, in accordance with The Gas Safety (Installations & Use) Regulations 1998. Here’s what you can expect from a service –
- Isolating the gas and any electrical supplies to the appliance
- Removing any dust or deposits from within the appliance casing
- Checking the condition of any electrical connections
- Cleaning the internal components and checking their condition for any signs of cracking
- Easing any stiff control taps
- Checking the flue for any obstructions and ventilation
- Checking the operation of the flue and ventilation
- Testing all disconnected gas joints for leaks
- Setting the appliance to burn efficiently
- Replacing coals
- Re-spraying the fire back if necessary
- Advising the customer of any further work required.
